My opponent, Rep. Wayne Scott, was nice enough to drop off some of his campaign literature at my home on Sunday afternoon. I must say it was an amusing read; it was funnier than the Sunday comics. He is getting more out of touch by the day.
In his brochure he says,
"Three years ago Oregon was a mess. We had the highest unemployment rate in the country, our schools were forced to make cuts and our seniors weren't getting the health care they needed."
The rest of the brochure basically goes on to claim that he has worked to fix all that. That is fine to say but actions speak louder than words. Oregon is still a mess. In fact it is a bigger mess than it was three years ago and the blame for that rests squarely on Rep. Scott's shoulders. He had the opportunity as Majority Leader to move Oregon forward and he has failed.
Rep. Scott has repeatedly blocked programs that would help senior citizens, children and hard working Oregon families. He blocked bulk purchasing for prescriptions and health insurance from even coming to the house floor for a vote. He voted to cut the Oregon State Police by 20 troopers. He has repeatedly sided with payday lenders and their 520% interest loans. Rep. Scott is Salem's chief obstructionist; he will stop at nothing and spend as much as he needs to put corporate priorities first.
He includes a quote from the Oregonian:
"Scott's critics and admirers say his approach is often more businesslike than political. He takes time to study and issue. But once he makes a decision he expects it to be carried out."
Even his own campaign literature hints that he is a bully. It is time for a change in Salem, the era of bully politics, bickering and saying one thing and doing the exact opposite needs to come to an end! We need to start moving Oregon forward. I pledge to actually put our citizens first, continuing my life long commitment to community service.
